Your Academic Life - Examples of Study Tips and Plans!

Oregon State University (Oregon State)

-Schedule study time each day in your planner and stick to it.

-Get a calendar and write in all of you text, paper, project, etc. due dates. Keep a copy of the calendar with you so you know when things are due and you are not taken by surprise.

-Review your class notes routinely so that the information moves from short term to long term memory.
Work towards reviewing you notes after class and an additional two to three times a week.

-Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Collect questions from readings and lectures and discuss them with your professors during office hours, it's the best time to have someone to talk to.

-Build a rapport with each of your professors, preferably early in the term.

-Form study groups with members of your classes and arrange to meet regularly instead of just meeting to review for tests.

-Find a place conducive to learning. You may fall asleep if you study on your bed or in a comfortable chair.

-Know your body. Taking a test or test on an overly full stomach can be distracting and sitting through class on an empty stomach can be equally unproductive.

-Sleep. Get at least 6 hours of sleep prior to an exam. It’s hard to take an exam if you are tired!

-Study during your peak hours. Find out when you are most alert (morning, afternoon, evening) and study during those times. You’ll find that you’re more productive.

-1. Set specific goals
-Be specific and realistic by making a list of all of the topics you will need to review for your test. You will want to include textbook readings, lecture notes, homework assignments, lab reports, projects or any other materials covered in class)

2. Set a specific target date and time
-Create a list of the days and times you plan to study. Days 1,2,3 and 4 are organized as study sessions. Day 5 of your study plan should be dedicated to reviewing the special notes you created)

3. Identify steps
-First, gather your materials from your list you created, next group your study materials into four logical categories, such as chapters, that you will be reviewing each day. Next create a plan for how you will review the information.)

4. Plan a reward
-Choose a reward for yourself after you have completed your five day study plan and after you complete the test.)
